Description 

The AMBIPOWER MDc-180 Heat Pump is the new generation 178L capacity heat pump suitable for small families. This is available in Low GWP (Global Warming Potential) of 631 GWP using R513a in the Rheem AmbiPower MDc-180 Model No: 551D180. This is available in Hardwired version with 2.4kW back-up element Models 551D180C & 551D180C/B or Plug & Lead 1.4kW backup element Models 551D180C3P & 551D180C3P/B.

This is a smart, energy efficient alternative for areas where a traditional solar water heater may not be suitable. It uses the heat from the surrounding air and doesn’t rely on direct sunlight to heat your water and provides a reliable, efficient, and sustainable way to reduce your water heating energy consumption.

The advanced wrap around microchannel heating technology for uniform and faster water heating making it suitable for cold climates with an operating range from -7°C to higher ambient temperatures.

  • Storage cylinder (single-family domestic dwelling): 7-year cylinder supply (Years 4–7). Labour and installation costs are the owner’s responsibility for Years 4–7.
  • Storage cylinder (not a single-family domestic dwelling): 3-year cylinder supply (Years 1–3). Labour and installation costs are the owner’s responsibility (Years 2–3)
  • Extended 5-year whole-of-product warranty (incl. labour) may apply where eligible rebates/certificates are created (proof required).
  • Major service required in Year 5. Failure to complete may affect warranty eligibility.

*The warranty periods above apply to installations in a single-family domestic dwelling only. For further details, please refer to the Owner’s Guide available in the Downloads tab on this page. Without limiting the periods shown in the table in Clause 3.1, a 5-year whole-of-product warranty applies (inclusive of labour incurred in respect of a valid claim under this warranty or the Australian Consumer Law in relation to a heat pump water heater) where:
a. A hot water rebate has been received under Solar Victoria’s Solar Homes Program for a heat pump water heater installed from 1 July 2023, and / or
b. Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) have been created for a heat pump water heater installed from 1 February 2025, or
c. Energy Savings Certificates (ESCs) have been created for a heat pump water heater installed from 1 December 2025.
For further details, call 131 031. Proof of receipt of the rebate and / or proof of VEECs or ESCs being created, i.e. installation quote showing number of VEECs or ESCs and dollar value, plus proof of purchase (as applicable) must be produced at the time of the service call.
